Tungsten Carbide
Tungsten Carbide is a highly durable material composed of tungsten and carbon atoms. Known for its extreme hardness and resistance to wear, Tungsten Carbide is a key material in various industrial applications, providing superior performance. It is the material of choice for manufacturing cutting tools such as end mills, drill bits, and inserts, due to its ability to efficiently cut and shape hard materials.
Tungsten Carbide is primarily composed of:
Tungsten (W): The primary component, accounting for a significant proportion of the alloy.
Carbon (C): Present in the form of graphite or carbon black, which reacts with tungsten to form tungsten carbide (WC) through a high-temperature process.
Cobalt (Co): Added as a binder or cement to hold the tungsten carbide grains together, typically in amounts ranging from 6% to 20%.
Other metals: In some cases, small amounts of other metals like titanium may be added to improve the properties of the alloy.
